A cinematic game needs sound that can follow the player. At Sonic Days, Audio Director Stephen Brown and Re-Recording Mixer Korey Pereira, MPSE, take us into their work on Exodus, from Dolby Atmos integration to the film sound experience they bring to an interactive world.

A journey with consequences
Exodus is a forthcoming single-player science-fiction action RPG from Archetype Entertainment, published by Wizards of the Coast. You play Jun Aslan, a salvager fighting for the future of a homeworld, with a crew whose relationships and survival are shaped by your choices.
Time matters in this world. Set 40,000 years in the future, the game makes time dilation part of interstellar travel: your journeys have consequences for the people who stay behind, and decisions can reach across generations. Alongside the scale of its alien worlds, there are personal stakes in who you bring with you and what you return to.
Bringing film sound craft into games
Stephen and Korey will discuss how experience in film sound design, Foley and mixing has informed the audio work on Exodus. Their session looks at what carries across between the two media, what needs to change, and how people from different disciplines work together.
The re-recording mixer’s role in game development is a particular focus. How do you carry a cinematic intention into an experience where the player has a say in what happens? For anyone working in film sound, or considering a move into games, that is a useful place to begin the conversation.
Dolby Atmos and the interactive mix
Dolby Atmos integration is part of the discussion, alongside the wider challenge of creating cinematic audio for an interactive medium. Stephen and Korey will connect that work to their collaboration on Exodus, giving us a way into the production decisions behind the finished experience.
Bring your questions about the relationship between sound design and mixing, and about how film and game audio teams can learn from each other. The session offers a chance to hear from two people doing that work on the same project.
Spend some time in the world before the talk
The Liberating the Kay gameplay footage takes Jun to Khonsu, an orbital defence platform protecting the homeworld of Lidon. The mission brings combat and choices together, with the future of the Kay caught up in the outcome.
Watch the gameplay before the session, and listen with the production in mind. What draws your attention? How do the quieter moments sit alongside the action? Come with your own impressions, then hear about the work behind the sound.
