Track Focus: Sound for Film & TV

What makes cinematic sound truly come alive? At Sonic Days 2025, the Sound for Film & TV track gathers award-winning sound professionals to explore how sound design and music shape the stories we see — and hear — on screen.

This year’s programme features screenings, live discussions, and in-depth talks with internationally acclaimed guests:

  • James Mather — Academy Award-winning supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer, known for Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Sonic Days will host a screening of the new Mission: Impossible film, followed by a conversation with Mather about creating the film’s sound design. He will discuss his approach to building dynamic sound worlds for large-scale action, blending location recordings, foley, and layered effects into an immersive cinematic experience.
  • Tormod Ringnes — Internationally recognized supervising sound editor, re-recording mixer, and sound designer, whose credits include FleeKon-Tiki and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Currently leading the sound work on Disney’s upcoming Tron: Ares, Ringnes will offer an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at shaping the sonic identity of a digital universe. His talk will reveal how collaboration with Nine Inch Nails, the fusion of organic and electronic textures, and careful storytelling choices bring emotional and physical depth to the futuristic world of Tron: Ares.
  • Kim B. Christensen — With over three decades in sound for picture, Christensen’s credits range from Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Se7en to Andor and Agatha All Along. Having worked in nearly every role — from sound effects and dialogue editing to studio building — he has built a career on versatility and collaboration. His talk will reflect on adaptability as a creative strategy and how staying open to any task can lead to a sustainable career in sound.
  • Second Victim / Det andet offer — This feature film, directed by Zinnini Elkington and starring Özlem Saglanmak and Trine Dyrholm, presents a raw look at the Danish healthcare system and the emotional strain on its workers. The film will be screened at Sonic Days, followed by a talk with sound designers Catrine le Dous and Jakob Strandgaard, and composer Jenny Rossander. Together, they will discuss balancing realism and drama in the film’s sound design, collaboration between sound and music, the challenges of a long one-take sequence, and how their dialogue with the director shaped the ambient sound of the hospital setting.
  • Tonebenders Live — A live recording of the acclaimed Tonebenders podcast, where hosts and guests will exchange experiences from across the sound-design world, offering an informal yet professional space for discussion and reflection.
