We are thrilled to welcome Fredrik Hagman to Sonic Days. Fredrik brings his experience as an senior sound designer at Volvo Cars, where his soundscapes have shaped the sensory experiences in Volvo, Polestar, and LEVC vehicles. His understanding of how sound influences emotion, honed through his studies at Chalmers University, and his work in integrating sound into electric and autonomous cars, makes him an invaluable addition to the program. We look forward to his insights on the future of automotive sound design!
Fredrik’s journey into sound design began with his passion for music, which led him to study electrical engineering at Örebro University. There, he discovered an interest in why we perceive sound differently. This curiosity led him to Chalmers University, where he earned a master’s degree in acoustics, focusing on how sound influences emotional reactions and spatial perception.
At Volvo Cars, Hagman is responsible for developing sound cues for both the interior and exterior of vehicles, focusing on creating a sound experience that aligns with the functionality and brand identity of each model. His work spans across brands like Volvo, Polestar, and LEVC, using a mix of organic and synthetic sounds to craft unique soundscapes. His recent collaboration with gaming and research institutions has expanded the scope of sound design in the automotive industry, particularly for electric and autonomous vehicles, where sound serves both as a functional cue and an emotional enhancer.
Fredrik’s work has transformed how sound is perceived within vehicles, making it a critical element of the user experience. His ongoing research underscores the importance of sound design in the evolving automotive landscape, especially as the industry shifts toward electrification and autonomous driving.
