Richard Lapington: The man behind the sound of Alan Wake II

Richard Lapington joins Sonic Days, bringing over two decades of game audio expertise that has helped shape some of the most immersive experiences in video games. Known for his work on “Alan Wake II” and “Quantum Break,” Lapington’s role as Audio Director at Remedy Entertainment has placed him at the forefront of sound design, where he balances technical precision with a deep understanding of narrative impact.

Lapington’s journey into game audio began at Crucible Studio, where he wore multiple hats as a Sound Designer, Game Designer, and Actionscript Programmer. This early experience gave him a strong foundation in the technical and creative aspects of game development, skills he later refined as an Audio Designer at Midway Games and Bugbear Entertainment.

Since joining Remedy Entertainment, Lapington has worked on several major titles, notably helping to establish the studio’s audio department. His contributions as Audio Lead on “Quantum Break” and “Alan Wake American Nightmare” were pivotal in defining Remedy’s signature sound. In addition to his audio roles, he has also been involved in narrative and creative dirrection, particularly in “Crossfire X,” demonstrating his versatility within AAA development.
