Diversity at Sonic Days: Elevating Voices in Sound and Music

At Sonic Days 2024, we are committed to making diversity a central focus of the conference. By collaborating with key partners like DPA (Danish Popular Auteurs) and MPBU (Partnership for Sustainable Development in Music), we aim to foster insightful discussions and take meaningful steps toward greater inclusivity in both the sound and music industries.

“Ensuring diversity is a key priority for us at Sonic Days, not only in terms of our speakers but also in the audience we welcome. We are thrilled to work with a strong line-up of partners this year, like DPA and MPBU, to highlight the importance of diversity not only in sound but also in the music industry,” says Lars Tirsbæk from Sonic Days.

As a first-time partner of Sonic Days, DPA—the Danish Professional Songwriters and Producers—brings their deep commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities for songwriters, composers, and producers in popular music. Since 1918, DPA has been advocating for better working conditions and helping to secure creative spaces for music professionals. Their involvement this year helps emphasize the critical role that diversity plays across both sound and music creation.

Meanwhile, MPBU—founded in 2022—works to bring data-driven, sustainable solutions to the Danish music industry. By uniting organizations such as Koda, Gramex, and Live Nation, the partnership strives to build a music ecosystem that prioritizes both sustainability and inclusivity. Their mission aligns closely with Sonic Days’ values, and their participation will enrich conversations about sustainability in music production and live events.

This year’s Sonic Days will feature dedicated Diversity Debates and Presentations focusing on both the Danish and international contexts. These debates and presentations will provide a platform for industry professionals to share best practices and ideas on how to better integrate diverse voices into the heart of audio and music production.

“There’s a lot of progress being made, but we still have work to do,” says Tobias Stenkjær. “Sonic Days offers a unique chance to learn from international experiences, and the discussions here will inspire further action within Denmark’s music and audio industries.”

Through strong partnerships with organizations like DPA and MPBU, Sonic Days continues to be a driving force in promoting a more inclusive and sustainable future for sound and music. We look forward to welcoming professionals and talents who are as committed to diversity as we are.
