Lora Hirschberg, an Academy Award-winning re-recording mixer, will be participating virtually at Sonic Days 2024 at Sonic College. Known for her work on films like Inception (2010), The Dark Knight (2008), and Iron Man (2008), Hirschberg has established herself as a prominent sound engineer in the film industry. She made history as the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing, earning the accolade for her work on Inception.
Hirschberg has been involved in the sound design and mixing of over 150 films and documentaries. Her recent projects include Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine FX’s Social Studies, and Amazon’s I Am Celine, where she has continued to bring her expertise in sound mixing, supervising, and editing. With a career spanning over three decades, she has worked on more than 110 films since 1990, making significant contributions to both blockbuster films and independent projects.
Born in Olmsted Falls near Cleveland, Ohio, Hirschberg studied film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She began her career in New York City, where she joined American Zoetrope in 1989, initially working in the central machine room. She later relocated to San Francisco, California, where she continued to develop her skills and build her reputation in the film industry.
At Sonic Days 2024, Hirschberg will join sound designer Peter Albrechtsen and sound editor & engineer Craig Henighan for a virtual session. She will share insights from her extensive career in sound engineering, covering aspects of sound mixing, editing, and supervision. Her presence at the event will offer attendees an opportunity to learn from her experiences working on major films, as well as her journey as a trailblazer in the sound industry.
